Roseau, Dominica — GEMS Holdings Limited, an impact-driven Caribbean-based company dedicated to managing and developing world-class, sustainable luxury properties and businesses in the hospitality and tourism markets, announced today it donated 60,000 bottles of water to St. Vincent & the Grenadines as the island continues to be impacted by the recent volcanic eruption. The La Soufriere volcano erupted on April 9, 2021 severely affecting citizens of St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Water supply is one of the island’s greatest challenges due to the amount of ash falling and contaminating drinkable water.
The water shipment arrived to St. Vincent’s capital, Kingstown, on April 30 and will be urgently distributed to those in need by The Rotary Club of St. Vincent. Through a new division of GEMS, The GEMS Foundation, the company is consigning with the Rotary Club of St. Vincent, which will manage the distribution to those most in need.
“The Caribbean islands are a tightly knit family and we’re more than happy to be able to contribute our resources, along with our neighboring islands,” said Ronson Dalrymple, Financial Controller of GEMS Holdings Limited and Director of The GEMS Foundation. “We remain grateful to St. Vincent for being among the first to assist Dominica after Hurricane Maria, and this is our way of showing them the same support. This past year has been very challenging for the hotel industry, including us, but we know the importance of helping when we can and this mission is certainly meaningful to us. We’re grateful to the Rotary Club of St. Vincent for facilitating distribution.”
Annette Mark, President of the Rotary Club of St. Vincent, stated: “On behalf of the Rotary Family in St. Vincent, namely the Rotary Club of St. Vincent, the Rotary Club of St. Vincent South and the Rotaract Club of Kingstown, we thank GEMS Holdings Limited for a container of water which arrived at the Rotary Family’s Warehouse in St. Vincent on the 30th April, 2021.” Mark added, “…we thank the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica from whom we have received two containers courtesy the Rotary Club of Dominica, the Dominica Bar Association, ADS Construction Inc. coordinated by Mr Christopher John and King Ocean Shipping Dominica.”
The Rotary Club of St. Vincent is accepting donations through partner chapters regionally and here in Dominica.
