Kalinago Council Secures Five UWI Scholarships for Students to Study in Antigua

The Kalinago Council is pleased to announce the receipt of five scholarships for students from the Kalinago Territory to pursue Bachelor’s /master’s degrees at the Five Islands University of  the West Indies campus in Antigua.

This significant contribution to the education and development of the indigenous Kalinago youth is a result of the generosity and vision of Dr. Curtis Charles and the leadership of the Five Islands campus. Chief Sanford expressed her profound gratitude to Dr. Charles and the university, stating that their “hand of care and deep understanding of the historical journey of the Kalinago tribe is a testament to their commitment to the well- being and advancement of the indigenous community”.

She went on to say “We are deeply appreciative of the support and recognition afforded to us by Dr. Charles and the Five Islands campus. This contribution will go a long way in empowering our youth to become leaders and change-makers, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact that these scholarships will have on our community.

These scholarships will enable the recipients to access higher education and acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to make meaningful contributions to the development of their community. The Kalinago Council believes that this investment in the human capital of the tribe will have a lasting impact on the resilience and prosperity of the Kalinago people. The Scholarship will cover full tuition cost.

Principal Justin Robinson stated “These Scholarships, represent far more than financial assistance- they are a powerful investment in the dreams and potential of students from the Kalinago Territory, enabling them to pursue tertiary education at the university of the West Indies Five Islands Campus. At UWI Five Islands, we remain committed to creating pathways of opportunity and ensuring that every student has an equitable chance to succeed.”
