While Emancipation activities had to be curtailed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Friday 31, July will be celebrated as Emancipation Dress Day and Dominicans are being encouraged to participate in the activity.
Emancipation Dress Day forms part of the week of activities commemorating Emancipation Celebrations.
Chief Cultural Officer, Raymond Lawrence says, “We are asking people to dress up, embrace our identity as Dominican people and people of African Heritage…So people can wear both African and Creole wear”.
On Saturday 1, August, the Minister of Sports, Culture and Community Development, Hon. Roselyn Paul, will address the nation. The address will be viewed live on the Facebook page of the Division of Culture.
This years theme is ‘Giving thanks, building hope and celebrating possibilities’.
