DOMINICAN YOUTH GIVEN OPPORTUNITY TO UPGRADE THEIR WRITING SKILLS IN PERFORMANCE POETRY AND SONG IN VIRTUAL WORKSHOP

Young Dominican spoken word artistes ad poets have been presented with a unique opportunity to upgrade their writing skills and performance technique through a Performing Arts Virtual Workshop to be facilitated by well-known Dominican spoken-word artiste and performer Delmance “Ras Mo” Moses, from May 25th to June 16th, 2022.

The Performing Arts Virtual Workshop is part of an on-going project by CultureMedia Service Inc and the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF/SGP -Dominica) to raise awareness on environmental issues and on the climate crisis as well as to mobilise local civil society organisations and individuals on actions to protect and safeguard Dominica’s environment and ecosystem.

The performing arts workshop is aimed principally at engaging young people 30 years and under who are writers of poetry and songs to help create and produce content to give expression and voice to issues on the environment and  on ways to address the challenges of the climate crisis in our country, the region and globally.

The workshop which will be delivered virtually using an online platform will enable young performing artistes to be equipped with enhanced skills and technical competencies in the creative process for creating performance poetry and songs and create opportunities to produce content through small group work.  At the end of the exercise, the workshop will provide a platform for sharing of material created and for performances of final products from the creative process.

The workshop sessions will involve a creative process in writing and performing to include:

  • Issue analysis
  • Juxtaposing contemporary popular culture with tradition
  • Prioritization of creative song writing and poetry writing style
  • Defining target audience(s) and writing and producing for that audience

Young people wishing to participate in this workshop are being invited to complete a registration form to indicate their interest and demonstrate their desire to join in the efforts to safeguard the environment and to help in mitigating against the threats of climate change and its impacts.

Those wishing to participate in the workshop can complete the registration form in the link below and should reach the organisers by May 21st to be considered for participation.
