On Friday 7 October 2022, a new executive of the Anguilla Teachers’ Union was appointed at its 2022 Biennial Conference held at the Rodney Rey Auditorium, The Valley Anguilla.
The Anguilla Teachers’ Union was established in 1953 and became a registered Labour Union in 1964 to
fully utilize the combined strength of its Teachers in the cause of public education. The new executive
will serve for the biennium 2022-2024.
Terron Azille; The new President of the Anguilla Teachers’ Union on the appointment of the new
executive stated: “It is an honour and a pleasure to lead this noble body and it is something that I take very seriously. I am fully confident in the amazing team that I am blessed to work with over the next two years”.
“Since the appointment of our new executive, the team and I have been working on a strategic plan to
revitalize the Anguilla Teachers’ Union. This plan will begin to unfold as we intend to visit the various
schools over the next months to meet, greet and discuss our plans and the issues facing our members
‘today’. There are numerous issues on the table; issues such as Teacher remuneration, Teacher apathy,
and building courage and confidence within the profession to fearlessly stand up and defend the ideals
and ideas we believe in. We also intend to highlight the accomplishments and the hard work that goes on
within the teaching profession. I believe sometimes we as Teachers do not even acknowledge the extent
to which we overwork ourselves because of the roles that we know we play in the quality of life of present and future generations. There is a lot of work to do and this is only the beginning. The best days of TheAnguilla Teachers’ Union are ahead”.
