DOMINICA HOSPITALS AUTHORITY VACANCY NOTICE –SPECIALIST MEDICAL OFFICER– RADIOLOGIST

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of SPECIALIST MEDICAL OFFICER– RADIOLOGIST at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.

The Radiologist should have experience in the following areas:

  1. Reading and interpretation of diagnostic x-rays, plain and contrast;
  • Reading and interpretation of diagnostic ultrasound examination;
  • Giving radiological input in the event of emergencies;
  • Designing relevant standards of performance for the Imaging Department;
  • Giving the clinical direction in the Department;
  • Reporting on imaging modalities including X-Rays, plain and contrast, Fluoroscopy, CT scans, Ultrasound, MRI, and Mammography.

Desired Candidate Profile:

Education & Experience

A Bachelor Degree in Medical Sciences from an accredited institution.

A postgraduate degree in Radiology from an accredited institution or membership in a recognized College of Radiology.

Three to five years of work experience as a radiologist in a hospital or private clinical setting.

Experience in Interventional Radiology would be an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work without supervision.

Sound knowledge of Quality Control Procedures.

Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to inspire trust and confidence in health professionals and users of the service.

Sound oral and written communication skills in working with a cross-section of staff and the general public.

Excellent human relations skills.

Duties & Responsibilities include:

Clinical Duties:

  • Responsible for interpreting and reporting all imaging studies done at Dominica China Friendship Hospital or any other facility operated by the Dominica Hospitals Authority;
  • Preparing reports promptly to help guide the management of patients;
  • Responding to on-call services to give radiological input into the management of patients;
  • Designing and monitoring protocols to ensure the best quality examination and the safety of patients undergoing imaging examinations are met;
  • Ensuring that the department is adequately equipped to deal with all medical emergencies, which may develop while patients are in the department;
  • Assist with planning and delivery of new services in the department;
  • Undertaking clinical management of the unit;
  • Consulting with other specialists on radiological and clinical matters;
  • Spearheading and participating in mandatory clinical training and ongoing medical education regarding imaging and imaging techniques.

Administrative Duties:

  • Providing reports as necessary to his/her supervisor regarding medical interventions
  • Collaborating with other specialist medical officers in the development of policies, protocols, procedures, processes, and guidelines for risk reduction and enhancing the quality and consistency of interventions, diagnosis, and follow-up of medical/surgical complaints in the specialty area;
  • Collaborating with the Coordinator of Imaging Services in planning work plans and programs;
  • Contributing towards patient and public education;
  • Contributing to the clinical training, research, and staff development in imaging including departmental continued medical education sessions;
  • Participating in clinical committees as assigned;
  • Giving clinical supervision to senior radiographers;
  • Preparing Medical Reports and attending Court to give evidence as required.

Working Environment

On-call Arrangements: Coverage is expected as rostered or as required. The incumbent is expected to work in a hospital setting.

Terms And Conditions

The successful applicant will be given a two (2) year service contract with the possibility of renewal upon satisfactory performance. He/she will receive a compensation package consistent with qualifications and experience.
