Dive Fest 2019 will mark 25 years of the Dive Festival. This year’s activities began with Dive Fest Happy Hour at Fort Young Hotel on Friday 5 July and will culminate on Sunday 14 July with various activities at Soufriere.
Simon Walsh believes that though the event has evolved it still maintains it’s core principles of “getting local people educated, local people employed in the dive industry, making sure that kids are learning to Scuba Dive, talking about conservation things; a necessity for saving turtles and the Marine reserve and things like that so that our future generations of Dominicans will be able to enjoy them as well. Also raising funds so that we can support the Discover Dominica Authority Marketing efforts overseas”.
Further, Walsh says that Dominica is one of the best islands in the region when it comes to marine practices and guidelines for dive shops. He says Dominica has some of the strictest rules written by Dominicans themselves. Walsh is the former president of the Dominica Watersports Association. Dive Fest is an annual event organised by the Dominica Watersports Association.
