About one hundred past students of the Dominica Grammar School have come together to give back to their Alma Mater.
Public Relations Officer of the group, Mrs. Ivona Jno.Baptiste Lugay says, “The Dominica Grammar School Class of 1987 decided to give back to the school which has helped mold us into outstanding men and women. Secondary school was a defining moment for many of us and it was unanimously agreed that we will register our group and forge ahead with a mantra that defines gratitude and giving back”.
She explained that so far they have provided scholarships for CXC exams payments, sports shoes for students as well as a mentorship programme. They also donate EC$1000 monthly to the pastoral care at the school. She says that it is their intention to do much more.
According to her, it was a joy to see the smiles on the faces of the students who received the scholarships.
While the group has recently lost some members that didn’t deter them from sticking to their purpose.
Businessman and member Jason Jno. Baptiste said that he hopes that others will follow in their footsteps and give back to their communities and stop depending on the Government.
The group is a dynamic one which has been able to reach out to former classmates as far as Japan.
