We sadly announce the passing of Michael Anthony Andrew aka Micho NQ of Giraudel/Fortune, age 67, who resided in Louisiana. He was born in Newtown on September 22, 1956 to the late Hayden Andrew and Clemance Jno Baptiste Andrew and departed this life on May 2nd 2023.
A gifted Artist and Musician, known for popularizing African drumming with his brother. He formed the Roots and Branches Band in Louisiana and performed in multiple venues in New Orleans. He was an inspiration and shared his words of wisdom and empowerment with many in the community. His powerful presence will be missed by all who experience his special exuberance.
He leaves behind an abundance of memories to be cherished by his devoted wife, Valencia Warner Andrew; three sons: Mandela Andrew, Jahba Andrew, Michael V. Andrew, adopted son: Rashide Charles; five daughters: Ayodele Andrew, Imanuelle Andrew, Ashah Andrew, Nisa Andrew and Valia M. Andrew, one daughter-in-law: Markeita Warner Caldwell (Nathaniel); His dedicated brother: Wilfred “Shoosh” Andrew and sister-in-law: Cynthia Wells; his sister: Nidy Andrew;; one brother-in-law: Henry Lee Mimms, Jr. (Jennie); Grandchildren: Tariq Veerasammy, Lovaly Williams, Raheem, Renanta and Jean-Naki Massicot, Adaniyah Frederick, Sienna and Sajani Andrew, Elijah, Esiah and Jah’kei Andrew, nieces, nephews, cousins, ex-wife and friend Nathalie Charles, and a host relatives in the Soufriere/Scotts Head communities. Close friends: Joan Joseph, Jerry and Fran Kraus, Joe Costa and many fellow artists and musicians.
The funeral service for the late Michael Andrew will be held in Louisiana on May 12, 2023. A memorial service will be held in Dominica at a later date, further information to be provided in a subsequent announcement.
