DAT Calls For More Unity Among Teachers In order To Get What They Want

President of the Dominica Association of Teachers(DAT) Mervin Alexander has issued a call for teachers to unite to combat issues facing them.

“I know it’s not going to be easy because we know our salaries are small but as I said again we can get what we want only if we unite. As long as we are divided, we will get nothing.”

Alexander pointed out that other teachers associations that are united are able to get what they want.

“The Jamaica teachers are probably the most aggressive teachers in the region. Whatever they want, they get it. They don’t joke because they recognize the power that they have.”

Alexander said that teachers need to cooperate and stop fighting each other.

He stressed that the DAT is the union for teachers on island.

“Let us think about it. Those of you who are here today, go back to your schools and speak to your teachers. DAT is the representative body for all teachers in Dominica. Some of them come to us only when they have problems and even if they are not members of DAT they still come to us. That should not be.”

He encouraged teachers to participate in all activities of the union and to work as a team that cannot be broken.

He said unless teachers begin working together as a team, they are in for trouble.Alexander made these remarks at the recently held Annual General Meeting of the DAT.
