At its virtual awards ceremony held on June 11, the Dominica America Scholarship & Culture, Inc. (DASCI) announced that twenty (20) students from seven (7) Primary Schools in Dominica were chosen to receive scholarships to further their secondary education. DASCI is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization mostly comprised of Dominicans living in Florida.
Every year, the organization invites students from a select number of Primary Schools to apply for scholarships. A number of schools from various school zones are chosen each year so that, over time, all schools will have an opportunity for their students to participate in the Scholarship Program.
This year’s scholarship recipients are from the following Primary Schools:
Western District SDA – nine (9) students, Pioneer Prep – one (1) student, Massacre – one (1) student, Bellevue Chopin – two (2) students, Thibaud – one (1) student, Baroness P Scotland – four (4) students, and Clifton – two (2) students. The names of the students and school principals will be posted on the DASCI website.
School Principals play a critical role in facilitating the application process for their students. Ms. Esther Robinson Principal of the Pioneer Prep Primary School, voiced her support for the program and noted that “so many lives will be positively impacted”.
DASCI has been awarding scholarships to Primary School graduates bound for Secondary School
n Dominica since 2007 and, to date, has awarded 86 such scholarships with a combined value of US$49,700. The program is open to students requesting financial assistance and who meet the scholarship requirements set out in the application.
DASCI will kick off its scholarship awards cycle for the 2023-2024 school year in early January 2023 with direct notification to the principals of the chosen schools. Principals of those schools and their students graduating in 2023 should look for the announcement and program details on DASCI’s website at www.dasci.org.
DASCI is committed to investing in the education of young people and looks forward to continuing the work.
