The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) acknowledges the importance of data collection and information in the strategic decision making process among key stakeholders in Dominica for enhanced socio-economic development. Use of data and information assists in implementing policies, programs and mechanisms such as financial and development packages to support the private sector. As such, DAIC encourages the private sector to actively participate in providing the necessary information to the National Census, including the Business Register collected by the Central Statistics Office.
DAIC also encourages participation in the comprehensive database being developed by the Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica (CREAD), the Small Business Support Unit and the Digital Transformation Unit. The objective of this database is to primarily build a business information system that encapsulates the nature, productivity, contribution to economic growth, employment, and innovation of small businesses; and will serve as an analytical tool that can be used by the government, and agencies involved, to inform policies, strategic plans, access to finance and provide an improved structure to the MSME sector.
By participating in this impactful survey and the census, businesses will contribute to ensuring success in developing the right policies and structure for the private sector and MSMEs in Dominica. As per the recent DAIC diagnostic conducted on the private sector, it highlighted the importance of understanding the composition of the private sector and MSMEs in order to better organize the support provided by various organizations, which will ensure enhanced initiatives that meet the needs of the businesses.
We expect that, as standard in these sorts of activities, all responses will be held in strict confidence as the privacy of participants is essential. Support will also be provided from both teams to ensure ease of participation by all involved.
