Cuban Tree Frog Reportedly Breeding In Dominica

The general public is asked to be aware of two invasive species which have graced our shores. Acting Head of Research and Monitoring of the Forestry Division, Ms. Genelle Brisbane said that there is a crisis in the Portsmouth area, namely Picard where the species have been identified; one of them being the Cuban Tree Frog.

These frogs can be recognized by the largeness of their size compared to our local frogs. If this frog is touched Ms. Brisbane advises that one’s hands should be washed immediately as the mucus secreted from the skin can produce an intense burning sensation to the eyes. These frogs pose a threat to the island’s endemic wildlife and if seen, it should be reported to the Forestry Division.
