To bring positivity to the lives of the youth of Dominica, and learn something about the art of stilt-walking, Miss Teen Dominica 2019, Kyanna Dyer, used one of her passions and hosted an interactive, cultural and fun training camp called, Bwa Bwa Stir Up, at the Public Service Training Centre on Friday, July 19th, 2019. The reigning Miss Teen was the Main Instructor, being a veteran member of the Afrikulture Stilt Walkers Inc.
Ms. Dyer aims to foster positive causes and activities to the youth to help grow them into great citizens and the event was used to initiate that goal. With fifteen (15) participants in attendance, the workshop was very successful because they learned something new through the practice and exploration of stilt walking, became more confident because of their engagement and in turn developed leadership qualities.
“By the end of Bwa Bwa Stir Up, I hope the flame of excitement is sparked within you, inspiring you to carry on the tradition of stilt walking and that it gives you the best of feelings; the kind that makes you feel free! Learning to walk on stilts is a year-round process which keeps one fit and allows for individual creativity.” Miss Dyer remarked in her welcome.
The Artistic Director of Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company, Mr. Raymond Lawrence also delivered brief remarks. Bwa Bwa Stir Up ran for a period of two (2) days from July 19th to 20th, 2019.
