Businessman and advocate for better parking in the city of Roseau, Parry Bellot, has added his voice to those raising concerns that attention needs to be given to the intersection on the E.O Leblanc Highway close to the former Dominica Banana Marketers Corporation (DBMC) building.
This area has been the scene of a number of road fatalities involving motorcycles including one which claimed the life of a young man and woman, a few years ago and most recently one which claimed the life of a police officer.
According to Bellot, speed bumps in that area will force traffic to slow down and consequently reduce the number of traffic accidents.
“I have been told infact by a former Chief of police…that traffic lights are not the answer to any of our traffic problems in Dominica. Basically, while they would control traffic in a good way for a few minutes, after a while there may be traffic going in one direction, a lot of it, but no traffic coming in the other direction across. So those with the traffic lights on red [they] have to wait for no good reason. So we have to use other means to regulate [our] traffic especially in dangerous corners.”
Bellot says that installing 2 speed bumps in the area under question is less costly and may be done fairly quickly.

Speed bumps, great, but the history of speed bumps in Dominica make them more dangerous, especially for visitors.
They are unlighted, they are unpainted , they are unsigned & unless You know in advance where they are located , a nasty surprise awaits.
