Mark Tomkins, Project Manager of Dominica’s Geothermal Energy Project, speaking at the National Consultation on February 6th, stated that an agreement made with the World Bank is a major step towards the construction of a geothermal plant in Dominica.
Tomkins provided details concerning the funding from the World Bank and informed that the agreement was reached after various aspects of the project was considered. He also mentioned that negotiations with the Bank have been successfully concluded and pending formal approval. After this approval which is scheduled for March 20, 2019, the funds for the project will become available.
Bidding for the construction of the plant could begin this month, with the process lasting roughly six months. Tomkins mentioned that the Government of Dominica will be undertaking the responsibility of land acquirement, and one of the stipulations of the World Bank loan documents is that no works can commence until the lands have been acquired.
