The Achievement Learning Center (ALC), a school dedicated to meeting the needs of students with disabilities, continues to lobby and advocate on the behalf of students with disabilities despite the fact that the school itself is in dire financial need.
The school sought ways to provide education services and support to the population of persons with disabilities and submitted a project to the United Nations International Children Education Fund (UNICEF).
The project which was subsequently approved will provide training and relief packages to families of children with disabilities.
Director of the ALC, Beverly Leblanc says, “The aim of the project is to create awareness of persons with disabilities and to emphasize the need for policies and legislation to cater to their needs. We do not know when we will be faced with another pandemic so we hope to gather sufficient data to build a database of persons with disabilities and also a plan for future pandemics”.
The project will be executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
