Issued at 6:00am Saturday 18th January, 2020 by the Dominica Meteorological Service.

Marine model data over the past few days has been consistent in forecasting a progressive deterioration of sea conditions from today. A deep layered low pressure system centered over the North Atlantic is forecast to generate northerly swells, which are expected to affect the coastal waters of Dominica throughout the weekend, with swells expected to peak near 4.0m (13ft) by late Sunday into Monday.

A High-Surf Advisory and Small-Craft Warning will be in effect for Dominica from 8am today until 6pm Tuesday 21st January 2020, as a result of rough sea conditions and strong winds which are expected to affect the island.Large waves and dangerous rip-currents during that time could create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators on the coastlines of Dominica.

A Small-Craft Warning means in this case means that winds of 25 to 30 knots (46 to 56 km/h) or greater and seas equal to or greater than 3 meters (10ft) are forecast to affect the marine area.

A High-Surf Advisory is issued when breaking wave action poses a threat to life and property within the surf zone. This high surf advisory and small craft warning may be extended if conditions warrant.
