The University of the West Indies (UWI) Global Campus has announced Mrs. Kelian Stedman as the Valedictorian for the graduating class of 2024. Mrs. Stedman, a First Class Honours graduate of the BEd in Educational Leadership and Management (Special), will deliver the Valedictory Speech at the UWI Global Campus Virtual Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
A dedicated Senior Qualified Teacher with Dominica’s Ministry of Education, Mrs. Stedman has earned numerous accolades, including consistent placements on the student honour roll during her studies at UWI. Her commitment to education stems from its transformative influence on her own journey. Having come from humble beginnings, she embraced education as a means to overcome life’s obstacles. This passion not only drives her teaching but also fuels her charitable efforts to uplift disadvantaged and marginalized students in her community.
Mrs. Stedman’s early self-awareness led her to recognize her creative talents as essential strengths, prompting her to pursue an associate’s degree in Secondary Education. Since then, she has built a career spanning both primary and secondary levels, with recent leadership roles including her position as a Form Level Supervisor, guiding students and faculty alike.
Looking ahead, Mrs. Stedman plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Inclusive Education, with aspirations to champion diversity, equality, and equity within Caribbean schools. Her experiences at UWI have also sparked a keen interest in law and justice within the educational landscape, which she hopes to further explore in her advocacy.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mrs. Stedman is a family-oriented individual with a passion for motivational and inspirational writing. She is currently preparing her first inspirational book, scheduled for publication in 2025.
Dr. Francis Severin, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of UWI Global Campus, commended Mrs. Stedman’s achievements, stating, “Mrs. Stedman’s journey, from modest origins to her role as Valedictorian, exemplifies the ethos of the Global Campus—to leave no one behind. Her success is a testament to the dedication of the Campus to all its students, despite resource limitations.”
The UWI Global Campus invites staff, students, alumni, and well-wishers to join the Virtual Graduation Ceremony, which will be broadcast live on www.uwitv.org, UWItv’s Flow EVO channels, and Facebook Live at 6:00 p.m. AST | 5:00 p.m. EST | 4:00 p.m. CST.
