The town of Portsmouth has sworn in a new town council and a first time mayor.
Mrs. Kerry Breedy Prince, who was born and raised in Portsmouth was sworn in on Monday as the new mayor.
Prince issued a call on residents to support the new council in its efforts to continue the development of the Town.
She said, “We must ensure that we pay our taxes in order to assist the council in getting your numerous requests attended too; we must ensure that we play our part and keep our town clean and beautiful. It is ours to preserve. Consider it as just a little way of you playing your part”. The new mayor so called on all stakeholders to give assistance inspite if the economic challenges faced.
“I am aware of the economic challenges not just nationally but globally, but remember that little is plenty when God is in it! We all have to do our part!”
Prince said that she has listened to the many concerns of residents and will attend to everyone of them as long as they are in keeping with the development plans for the town.
Actor to Prince, Portsmouth is a beautiful place with great potential. Therefore everyone must work together to benefit economically.
Prince hopes to complete many infrastructural developments during her term, such as the Bedford Street Project, the recovering of the Portsmouth Town Council Office, Sidewalk Rehabilitation Project along the Michael Douglas Blvd and the re-instatement of the storm drains in the town to deal with flooding.
The mayor said that her council will also focus on social development such as building a better Carnival package and engaging in sports and cultural activities; economic development such as small business training programs and the reorganization of Borough square to create a more organized bus stop. The council also plans to develop the Tourism sector as well.
Prince was elected in the Glanvillia ward and expressed thanks to all those who demonstrated confidence in her abilities to represent them.
