The Dominica Meteorological Service has issued a
- Flash Flood WATCH for Dominica
- From 6am to 6pm today Wednesday October 28th, 2020
- A Flood Watch means that flooding is possible.
- A trough system together with a tropical wave has been generating unstable conditions across Dominica during the overnight period. Cloudy to overcast skies with showers, possible thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to continue during today. Radar and satellite imagery indicated that light to moderate and isolated heavy shower and thunderstorm activity located just east and approaching Dominica. Flash flooding is therefore possible during today. The flood watch may be extended or upgraded to a warning later today should conditions warrant.
- Model projected rainfall is for accumulations of between 1 to 3 inches (25 to 75mm) with higher amounts in elevated areas.
People in areas that are prone to flooding, landslide and falling rocks should be vigilant and exercise extreme caution during today. Take all precautionary measures to protect life and property.
POSSIBLE IMPACTS FOR DOMINICA
- Shallow rivers, streams, gutters and ravines may temporarily overflow their banks and flood surrounding areas. Roadways may be flooded.
- Landslides due to intense rainfall as well as rock falls from overhanging cliffs
Moderate to rough seas are expected during the next 24 hours with waves peaking near 10 feet and a small craft warning will be in effect from 12 noon. Small craft operators and people living near the coast, especially on the east coast, should exercise extreme caution. Sea bathers should stay out of the water.
