Golden Drum Awards Ceremony Carded For November

One of Dominica’s most prestigious cultural awards, the Golden Drum Awards, which recognizes groups and individuals involved in culture for over 20 years has been scheduled for Saturday 14, November.

The Golden Drum Awards  ceremony which is usually held in the month of July had to be rescheduled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chief Cultural Officer, Raymond Lawrence says, “We had to postpone the Golden Drum Awards this year, to November. Normally we have the Golden Drum Awards ceremony in Emancipation celebrations which is held usually in July/ August. But because of the Covid situation at the time, and because around that time there were curfews and lockdowns and things like that we decided to postpone it to November”.

Lawrence says further, “We think it is important that we have the Golden Drum Awards every year and that’s why we said we needed to have it in 2020 because the awards are for this year.

The Golden Drum Awards ceremony also includes Special Recognition Awards for groups and individuals who have been involved in culture for less than 20 years.

Lawrence says that the recipients of the awards will be announced soon.
