At a press briefing on Tuesday 6 October, the Ministry of Health informed Dominicans that imported cases if COVID-19 are still being intercepted at the airport. Presently there are 8 active cases on island and a total of 14 since the reopening of the borders.
National epidemiologist Dr. Shaluddin Ahmed said, “From the case #14, 54 contacts have been identified so far, and contact tracing is ongoing. All were tested, and results are pending.
All contacts are now under home quarantine”.
Dr.Ahmed reminded all how COVID-19 can be contracted and said “there is no need to be in a continued state of paranoia”.
He continued, “We need to be sensible in our approach and actions; base-less actions cause unnecessary panic in the community, and we should avoid this”.
Dr. Ahmed said that there are capable Health officials who disseminate the relevant information where necessary.
