The Office of Disaster Management (ODM) and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, took an initiative to increase public awareness of earthquake hazard and safety plans at schools on the island.
This initiative was carried out on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., where students and teachers who were able to participate were required to “Drop, Cover and Hold on” for approximately one minute. At 10:01 a.m., the “shaking” would have ended and all involved were asked to assemble at a safe point to evaluate the exercise.
The focus of this exercise was to build teacher and student awareness of the immediate actions that should be taken to protect themselves during an earthquake.
