50 More Youth Summit Launched in Dominica

Dominica welcome representatives from I am a Girl Barbados, Read for Life, SPR Girls Trinidad and Tobago and Girls of A Feature St. Lucia as the 50 More Youth Summit was launched in Dominica on Monday 1st April 2019 at the Goodwill Parish Hall.
“50 More” is an initiative of I am a Girl Barbados, launched in Barbados on their 50th year of Independence with the aim to challenge the minds of both girls and boys throughout the region so that they desire to become well rounded contributing members of society.

After its successful implementation in Barbados and St. Lucia, the 50 More Youth Summit was launched in Dominica. The Dominica Team ‘I have a Right Foundation and Travel for a cause Caribbean were honored to host this Initiative.

Endorsed by the U.S. Embassy Bridgetown, this Youth Summit was hosted under the theme “Developing the Leadership, Entrepreneurial Mindset, and Social Empowerment of 21st Century Youth.”

Over 160 Secondary School students from across Dominica attended the Summit with the goal to build the capacity of in-school youth to be advocates and leaders within their schools and communities. According to the Founder of I have a right Foundation, Valerie Honore ‘ As Dominica continues to rebuild post-Hurricane Maria, the 50 More Youth Summit was strategically designed to inspire a generation of change-makers to see themselves as relevant to building peaceful and sustainable communities in Dominica and beyond. Above all, we believe that our generation of change makers are inspired to lead change within their communities, nation, and region.’

Featured speaker, Sam Raphael welcomed the initiative and caution the students to focus on their goals. He encouraged them to always strive for excellence and aim for the best always. He gave the students a brief history of his struggles dating back from Tropical Storm Erika to Hurricane Maria. He reiterated that these struggles didn’t deter him from achieving his goals.

The Convent High School choir, as well as the Junior Monarch, entertained the young people at the Summit.
