The Government of Dominica has taken the responsible decision to cancel the annual Carnival. This is according to Tourism Minister, Hon. Denise Charles.
Charles said that while we cannot deny the historical significance of the carnival celebrations, whealth and safety in this COVID-19 era is top priority.
Presently, there are 13 active cases of COVID-19 on island.
Meanwhile, National Epidemiologist Dr. Shaluddin Ahmed said that there have been 5 new cases of COVID-19 over the past week.
He said, “Three of these cases were identified through rapid testing at the Airport… One case was detected through the routine day-5 testing at the Quarantine Facility, and the 5th case was detected via our pre-travel screening”.
He continued to say that 3 of the 5 cases are between the ages of 35-40 years while the other 2 cases are above 70 years.
Ahmed explained, “Two of these cases are foreign nationals. They are asymptomatic.
A total of 20 contacts were identified for one of the index cases. All contacts are negative”.
