Women Senior Players Recognized

(DFA)- The Coach and other officials of the Dominica Women’s Football Team last night handed out gift packs to a few deserving players.

The coaches selected the players based on development and commitment among other things.

Donisha Xavier who has been with the senior team for quite some time was selected by Coach Albert Titre.

Titre said “Xavier is someone you can rely on…she is capable of playing multiple positions and plays it with heart.”

Kishma Etienne was also given a token of appreciation by Coach Titre.

Kishma intends on being a psychologist in the future. “She is very articulate in her speech and she is very confident when asking questions,” Coach Albert Titre said.

China Tulloch was also recognized. She was called up to the senior team for the First time and only started playing football when the DFA introduced the Growing Women’s Football program (GWF).

China, a Kalinago warrior, clocked 11 on the beep test. She was recognized by Goalkeeper Coach, Melvin Angol.

Other players recognized were; Star Humphreys and Romelcia Phillip.

“Starr has developed from a youth player at u15 and u17,” said Assistant Coach, Rosilia Registe. “Now she’s ready to play at the senior level. She understands her role as a number eight player but also fills the position of wing, mid and striker. Her ball handling skills and decision making on the field has improved greatly.  I see her as the next midfield player to help Dominica grow in its women’s program.”

Fitness Coach, Delroy Watt, speaking before handing his token of appreciation to Romelcia Phillip said “Romelcia has displayed what an athlete can achieve with hard work, perseverance and consistency over the last twelve weeks of preparation for the Women’s World Cup Qualifying matches scheduled for Guyana next week.”

He added, “Despite having a knee injury and the fact that she was out of shape due to physical inactivity and covid lockdowns, she attended every single training session. After receiving several sports therapy sessions by medic’s personnel and undergoing strength program, a remarkable improvement was seen in the national player who has had quite a number of caps for Dominica.”

The women are currently preparing for the CONCACAF Women’s Qualifying matches versus Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
