According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of FCFC, Nicole Toussaint Jno- Baptiste, the purpose of the raffle was to raise funds for the children who participated in the Stories by Children book as well as to give back to communities.
The FCFC initiative is geared towards allowing children to express themselves through poems and stories and to use these entries in a book compilation.
On December 11, 2021 the very first children’s book titled “Family” was launched and is now available for purchase at Jays Book Store, and from family members. The children’s book is also available for order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Since the book launch, Stories by Children Vol. 1, has been donated to different schools and business places both in Dominica and the Diaspora. The Stories by Children Committee has gone a step further to raise funds and to give back to friends and supporters by holding a raffle which was done on Mother’s Day.
The general public should anticipate the launch of Stories by Children Volume 2 under the theme “When I grow up” by the end of 2022. As part of Stories by Children Volume 2, a literacy competition was held among children in Dominica and in the Diaspora. The winners of each age category will be announced shortly.
Toussaint Jno-Baptiste and Cyrilla Family Club said that it is important to continue to encourage children to read and to develop a love for reading and learning.
