Grenadian athlete Kelsey Murrell Ross shattered two records as Grenada continued to show their dominance in Track and Field, as the 2019 Winlott CBN Windward Island games continued at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on Thursday.
In total 3 records fell during the meet, but it was Kelsey who stole the spotlight. She broke the girls shot put, obliterating the old record which stood at 13.02 meters and set a new mark of 14.22 meters. She then set a new mark in the girl’s discus breaking the old mark off 38.5 meters and set a new record of 41.45 meters.
Meantime the St Vincent boys shaved two-tenths of a second off the 4×100 meter record. The old mark was 41.8 seconds and the new record is now 41.6 seconds. Overall Grenada topped the point standings with 305 points, well clear of their nearest rivals St Lucia who finished in second place with 247 points. St Vincent placed third with 206 points and host country Dominica last with 148 points. Dominica got 1 gold, 4 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals.
Carifta Games medallist Trenice Hamilton got a gold medal in the javelin and silver medal in the shot put. Jonathan Mills secured a silver in high-jump, and Adissa Burton had a silver in the Javelin and Carla Bunch Silver in the 800 meters. Malakai White got a bronze in the long jump and Dennick Luke got bronze medal in the 800 meters. Meantime persistent showers at Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth in the evening prevented any action in the basketball games.
Grenada was leading St Vincent 13-11 in the first quarter of their boy’s basketball match when the game was stopped due to rain. The second match between Dominica and St Lucia was abandoned just before tipoff when the rains returned. Organizers are looking to have games played on Friday at 3 pm at Benjamin’s Park.
The 2019 Inter schools games will continue on Friday, with volleyball, football, and basketball. Dominica will play arch-rivals St Lucia in girls volleyball at Benjamin’s park from 8:30 am.
Grenada will then face St Vincent at 10 am.

In Football also at Benjamin’s Park St Lucia will be looking to make it two wins in as many games as they face Grenada who also picked up a win in their opening match. That game will tip-off at 2 pm. At 4 pm Dominica will go in search of their first win when they face St Vincent. The girl’s basketball title will be decided Friday evening, St Vincent will play St Lucia in the first game at 6 pm, while at 8 pm Dominica will put its undefeated record on the line against Grenada.
