Weather Outlook for Dominica and the Lesser Antilles
Valid from: 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 18, 2021
A high pressure system is expected to remain dominant across the area during the next 24 to 36 hours maintaining strong wind speeds. During this time, low-level clouds moving with the wind flow are expected to produce periods of scattered showers across the Lesser Antilles, including Dominica. Residents are advised to exercise the necessary precautions due to strong winds.
By Saturday into Sunday, a low level trough is projected to generate an increase in shower activity across the island chain.
Moderate to rough seas, due to strong winds, are anticipated during the next 24 hours with swells near 12.0ft along the northern and eastern coastlines. A gradual reduction in wind speed and swells can be expected during the weekend.
A Small Craft Warning and a High Surf Advisory remain in effect for above normal seas. Small craft operators and people living near or traversing coastal areas should remain vigilant and exercise extreme caution. Sea bathers are advised to stay out of the water.
