Local government commissioner, Glenroy Toussaint has announced that local government will introduce accounting software to village councils in an effort to enhance their financial capabilities.
He said, “Our intention really is to roll it out by the next financial year, the 1st of July, and all of the Councils will in fact be in tune and will have this new accounting system so that it can enhance the effective and efficient financial administration of the local authorities because we do have some challenges in that regard and it’s all fitting for us to improve and enhance it so that we can better serve the public”.
Staff and councillors will receive training on the system during the month of May.’
The system was developed in conjunction with the Audit Department, the Ministry of Finance and the Treasury Division.
