The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean has expressed deep sadness at the sudden passing of Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox, Barbados’ Chief Fisheries Officer.
In a statement, UNDP extended its heartfelt condolences to Dr. Cox’s family, colleagues, and the wider fisheries community, describing her as an exceptional leader and a valued partner whose work significantly strengthened the fisheries sector in Barbados.
Dr. Cox played a key role in several initiatives, including the Barbados Coastal Fisheries Resilience Project and collaborations with the UNDP Accelerator Lab. Through these efforts, she contributed valuable technical expertise, strategic leadership, and a strong network that advanced innovation, dialogue, and sustainable development within the blue economy.
