EmoNews is a news publisher based in the Commonwealth of Dominica. This policy explains how we handle information when you read this website, use an account or contact our team.
Reading the website
You can read our news without creating an account. We record page views to understand how the site is used. These records include the page visited, the associated story, the time, the referring website’s hostname and the country reported by our hosting provider.
Our analytics system uses a daily-changing hash derived from the connection address and browser information to distinguish visits within a day. It does not store the original IP address in the page-view record or use a persistent analytics cookie. Hosting and security providers may separately process connection information to deliver and protect the website.
Accounts and messages
If you create an account, we store your email address, the name you provide and records needed to keep you signed in. Where enabled, saved stories, topic follows and comments are associated with your account. Sign-in uses a single-use email link rather than a password.
If you email us, we use the information you provide to answer your enquiry, consider a news submission or arrange the service you request. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive personal information.
How we use and share information
- To operate accounts and the website, respond to enquiries and manage reader contributions.
- To measure readership, maintain the news archive and prevent misuse.
- To work with providers that host the website, store its data and media, deliver sign-in emails and provide security.
- To comply with applicable legal obligations and protect legitimate rights.
We do not sell, rent or trade reader personal information. Service providers may process information outside Dominica as part of operating the website.
Advertisements and external media
Advertisements displayed by this website are image-and-link placements, not a third-party advertising network. They do not themselves set advertising cookies. Following an advert takes you to the advertiser’s destination, where its own policies apply.
Facebook images are loaded from Facebook. Choosing to play a Facebook video loads its player, which may receive technical information and use its own cookies or similar technologies. External websites and media providers operate under their own privacy policies. Read our cookie policy for details.
Retention and security
Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes. Account sessions expire after 60 days and can be ended sooner by signing out or revoking access. Account records and correspondence are retained while needed for the account, enquiry, security or applicable legal obligations. Page-view records are currently retained indefinitely for readership reporting. Backups may retain earlier records after a change or deletion.
We use HTTPS, access controls and hashed session tokens to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your requests
To request access to your personal information, correct it, ask for deletion or raise a privacy concern, email editor@emonewsdm.com. We may need to verify your identity. We respond to requests within 30 days, subject to any applicable legal requirements.
Account deletion does not automatically remove information appearing in published journalism. We assess concerns about published material separately, taking account of accuracy, privacy, applicable law and the public interest.
Children
If you believe a child has supplied personal information that should be removed, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

We update this policy when our information practices change. The date above identifies the current published version.
