Earnisha Fontaine and Abinie St. Jean, two Dominican female cricketers, have left island on April 12th 2022 to participate at the five (5) match T20 U-19 bilateral series against Trinidad and Tobago. Notably, the girls have been selected to represent the Windward Islands U-19 squad. The series is scheduled to be held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines from April 14th to 19th 2022 in preparation for the West Indies women’s U-19 tournament in July 2022.
Interestingly, this is the first time that this event is being held between these two teams and serves as an ideal opportunity to advance women’s cricket in the region. The Windward Islands U-19 team is headed by a powerful trio including, Lydia Edgar (Manager), Cleton Burnett (Head Coach) and Samantha Lynch (Assistant Coach).
Moreover, both teams will be competing for the Browne-John/McIntyre Trophy which was named after Trinidadian Ann Browne-John and late Grenadian Nadica McIntyre, both of whom have contributed significantly to women’s cricket.
Following the first day of the five match series on April 14th 2022, the Windwards Islands U-19 squad secured a win after scoring 122/6 in their 20 overs. The Trinidad and Tobago U-19 team fell short after scoring 92 all out in 16.5 overs.
As the series progresses, Emonews would like to congratulate both Dominican players for having made the Windward Islands U-19 team and wishes them future success for the remainder of the series.
