TWENTY-EIGHT MORE TO BECOME HOMEOWNERS UNDER THE HRP

Under the Housing Recovery Project (HRP), twenty-eight more applicants have moved on to the next stage of the process to become Beneficiaries.  They were enrolled into the 9th HRP Homeowner Orientation programme on Thursday, May 26th, 2022 at the Goodwill Parish Hall.

HRP Project Manager, Nicholas Bruno, welcomed participants and outlined the various components of the Project while the organization’s Environmental Specialist, Lolita Raffoul, gave an Overview of the Homeowner Journey.  Also delivering presentations to the soon-to-be Homeowners were HRP’s Engineer Brian Pinnock, Social Safeguards Specialist Kimberly Alleyne and Financial Specialist Jennifer Julien-Laudat.

The Design and Supervision Firm (DSF), a critical part of the entire operation, was represented by Algernon Simon.  The Firm offers extensive technical assistance in design and construction supervision and is the link between Beneficiaries and their Contractors throughout the construction process.

The National Bank of Dominica was also on hand to open accounts for the Beneficiaries, as funds for the Project are channelled directly through that institution.

Anne Nation of Portsmouth, one of the Beneficiaries, was extremely excited to be  in attendance.

“I am so thankful and grateful to the Government of Dominica, the World Bank and the HRP.  Thank God for them because without them this Project would not be possible.  My house was totally destroyed by Hurricane Maria and it will be a dream come true to have my own keys, have my own home because it has really been difficult.”

The HRP is a project of the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, financed by the World Bank through a US$30M grant and a US$10M credit.  This batch of Beneficiaires brings the total number of persons enrolled into the Project, to date, to 368.
