A: Customers have experienced some temporary power interruptions due to the ongoing process of integrating the new geothermal generation into the national electricity system. During the commissioning period they experienced some islandwide outages due to transmission-related issues and interconnection challenges which have since been resolved. Take note, that some of these outages were related to faults on DOMLECs system due to internal issues and external factors such as vegetation and animal contact with our lines. In each instance the related stakeholders have worked to ensure service is restored as quickly and safely as possible.

A: Currently there is no testing being done as the plant is in commercial operations since the end of July. However, transmission system to include substations is still ongoing.

A: Dominicans are already seeing tangible results of the geothermal project. This is a reliable, locally available indigenous source of renewable energy. It has reduced our dependence on imported diesel fuel, which means greater protection from fluctuations in international fuel prices. Most importantly, geothermal generation has significantly contributed to Dominica achieving the goal of transitioning to a predominantly renewable electricity system.
