Paul comes from a very active involvement in Politics having himself capped the position of President of the National Youth Council and Chairman of the Atkinson Village Council.
Mr. Baron involvement in Politics and the Community now spans 19 years, beginning his life of service and voluntarism as early as 16 years by his introduction to the now serving Prime Minister.
He remembers being instantaneously drawn to the simple but powerful truth that honorable men seek only to be of service to their community.
With wanting to have an impact he staked his chances with his Mentor and friend at the time Claudius Sanford by becoming the engine behind his youth campaign. Together with his cousin Joel Baron (Paris) he held the banner of Winds of Change under the careful watch of Kevin Dangleben a teacher of the Castle Bruce Secondary and a Community Activist.
His involvement in the UWP Campaign meant that he had a stage and an audience who was instantaneously drawn to his Charisma. He recalls boasting on the platform in the Kalinago Territory that he was more than just handsome like the Prime Minister but also Smart, Articulate and Empathetic.
The tides did not favor Claudius Sanford at the time, and he lost to incumbent Kelly Graneau.
As fate would have it, Paul was during the campaign courting the daughter of Kelly Graneau, Conchi Graneau with whom he had a son Alexander Jr.
Paul felt that at the time the most obvious decision to make was to join his father-in-law in his campaign and contribute to the development of the Salybia Constituency. He joined the Ministry of Kalinago Affairs as Community Liaison Officer and began the process of transforming the communities by building capacity.
He dug deeper by also serving as secretary on the Salybia Labor Constituency Branch an organization he held also the role of PRO and Chairman. With Kelly Graneau stepping down to his older brother Ashton Graneau, Paul solidified his position by becoming deputy campaign manager while Charles Corbette was Manager, to Ashton Garneau’s campaign. With a well-coordinated campaign Ashton Graneau won.
Paul subsequently worked with Casius Darroux and Cozier Frederick in the capacity of Communications Specialist.
When ask why his decision to break his naval cord from the DLP. “ I am very familiar with everyone who is involved in the political process in Dominica and also the Caribbean” I am aware that they mean well and have big hearts” My concern however is that we are operating is vastly different times. I worry sometimes that my leaders do not fully realize that we are living in the 21st century and are not fully in touch with the realities of our times.
I know also to the full extent the challenges we are confronted with, I know our limitations but I also know that there are always solutions. We simply cannot apply the remedies of the past to today’s problem, these remedies are no longer consistent or relevant. Take a good look in Dominica and around the world.
Our leaders are bankrupt for ideas and only doing things that are expedient to them or a selected few.
I stake my decision that I brought a princess into the world. And there is magic when a princess is born, the kingdom has hope and something to look forward to. My father and mother were also very instrumental in molding me. I have nine sisters; 19 nieces and nephews and I am the only Son. They have watched my progress over time and put total faith and confidence in my decision.
In other words, I want to restore Dominica to the point of which we felt extremely proud and not be concerned about where the next meal is going to come from or compromise our values. There is no excuse because we can do better, especially given that the enabling environment exist.
I say we prioritize, get the involvement of every Dominican and take pride in nation building.
Peter Tosh proclaim that “the Youth are Builders of Nation” it is upon their shoulders Dominica’s future lies.
I wish my former colleagues well and ask always to keep the interest of your family, community and country in full view.
