The Dominica State College Literary and Debating Society, represented by Ajani Shillingford, Khalil Stoute and Bijoux Desiree put up a strong fight against the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in debate # 1 of the debate competition between the two schools. The DSC team scored 1015 points to SALCC 1104 points, allowing team SALCC to claim victory in this debate. The topic of this debate was “The benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) outweigh the potential risks to humanity”. The SALCC was proposing the moot and the DSC was opposing.
In debate #2, the DSC was represented by Janice Corbette, Megann Mendes and Sasha Maxwell. They opposed the moot “The key cause of gang culture in the Caribbean is the prevalence of debilitated families.” They scored 1154 points to SALCC’s 1032, soundly defeating them and securing a win for the DSC debate team.
The Dominica State College was declared the overall champions of the debate battle between the two schools, amassing a grand total of 2169 points in contrast to 2136 points from the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. The judges praised the DSC team for their consistency throughout both debates of the competition and the SALCC team referenced them as formidable opponents.
