Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre, on behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, extends congratulations to Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne and the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda on the country’s 45th Independence Anniversary.

Prime Minister Pierre joins Antiguans and Barbudans in celebrating the occasion and recognising the journey their country began on 1 November 1981 as an independent nation.

This year’s anniversary comes as Antigua and Barbuda welcomes Commonwealth leaders to its shores. Forty-five years after gaining independence, the country is hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, focused on strengthening partnerships and investment, with discussions on shared priorities including climate resilience, trade and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Pierre looks forward to joining those discussions and to meeting Prime Minister Browne and other leaders in Antigua and Barbuda.

Saint Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda have worked together as members of CARICOM and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. Prime Minister Pierre looks forward to continuing that partnership as both countries pursue opportunities for their people and address the region's challenges.

The Prime Minister extends best wishes to Antiguans and Barbudans at home and abroad as they mark their country's 45th year of independence.
