Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre, on behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, extends sincere condolences to the family, colleagues, friends and the entire medical fraternity on the passing of brothers Dr. Peter Archer Wilwyn St. Rose and Dr. St. George Bennett Richardson St. Rose.

Saint Lucia has lost two specialist physicians who contributed significantly to healthcare development over several decades. Their contribution to the health system in Saint Lucia is immeasurable.

Dr. P.A.W. St. Rose, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, passed away on October 3, 2026, aged 90. His service began in Soufrière in 1967 as a District Medical Officer, followed by work in the Accident and Emergency Department at Victoria Hospital. After returning from the United Kingdom in 1973, he provided specialist care in obstetrics and gynaecology until his retirement.

His work supported women through pregnancy and childbirth and helped families access reproductive healthcare through the Family Planning Clinics in Castries. Known for his humility, compassion and patient bedside manner, he also trained and mentored physicians locally and overseas. His service on the Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Council, the Nursing Council and other national health committees extended his contribution beyond his own patients to the wider healthcare system.

Dr. Richardson St. Rose, a Consultant Orthopaedic, Spinal and Trauma Surgeon, passed away on October 14, 2026, aged 80. Following his return from Trinidad and Tobago in 1975, he served as Chief Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Ministry of Health and as a Senior Surgeon at Victoria Hospital, helping to develop Saint Lucia’s capacity to treat serious injuries and complex bone, joint and spinal conditions.

As a visiting specialist at St. Jude Hospital, he brought consultations and surgical services to patients in the south. He also provided specialist care at Tapion Hospital from 1997 to 2023 and through his private practice on Chaussee Road, Castries. His career spanned public and private healthcare, contributing decades of surgical expertise to the country.

Together, the St. Rose brothers helped establish and sustain specialist services on which Saint Lucian families depended. Their place in the country’s medical history rests on years of patient care, professional service and contributions that continued well beyond the consulting room.

The Government and people of Saint Lucia join their family, friends, former patients and colleagues in mourning their passing and honouring their years of service to our nation.

May their souls rest in perfect peace.
