Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre, in his capacity as Minister responsible for Disaster Management and Chair of the National Emergency Management Advisory Committee (NEMAC), convened a meeting of NEMAC at the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) Headquarters on Thursday, June 11, 2026, to review Saint Lucia’s state of readiness for the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season and ensure the necessary systems, resources and response mechanisms are in place to protect lives and property in the event of an emergency.
The meeting brought together key agencies and stakeholders responsible for disaster preparedness, emergency response and recovery. Representatives provided updates on their operational readiness, contingency plans, available resources and coordination mechanisms in the event of a tropical storm, hurricane or other emergency affecting Saint Lucia.
NEMAC was established under the Disaster Management Act No. 30 of 2006 to provide strategic guidance on national disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, and to serve as the principal national advisory body on disaster management. The Committee is chaired by the Minister responsible for Disaster Management and comprises representatives, including the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, Saint Lucia Fire Service, Ministries responsible for Health, Wellness and Nutrition, Infrastructure, Housing and Physical Development, as well as other Ministries, Departments, statutory bodies and organisations nominated by the Minister.
