The St. Mary’s Academy Culinary Arts class of forms 3 and 4 were at Jungle bay hotel in the presence of an experienced chef with additional assistance provided by the very helpful and capable kitchen staff. The boys were taught advanced culinary and hygiene techniques which will not only improve the quality of their food preparation but also their self-esteem and confidence in the kitchen setting.
The boys also received a tour of the entire kitchen facility. They became acquainted with the various pieces of equipment that are utilized in a modern kitchen and were also briefed on the proper procedures needed to safely operate and maintain these pieces of equipment.
The boys were very much elated to be a part of this wonderful experience. The 4H club prides itself in developing holistic solutions that will not only prepare our young people for the future but build on their skills and talents to make them productive and efficient members of society.
The culinary arts program is doing just that: Creating and fostering innovative gastronomic resources and best practices that will create chefs and culinary experts for the restaurants and hotels of the future. It is worth mentioning that in 2021, SMA 4H Club International was recognized by the Culinary Arts Institute of American, receiving the Caribbean ‘Chefs in Schools Award’ for the first time.
