Social Entrepreneur, Valarie Honore has launched a Club House and GirlHood Lounge in the community of Wesley.
She says, “The clubhouse and lounge is a step to creating the safe World that I dream of. A world where the rights of all children, girls and youth are protected from all forms of violence and abuse – a strong community of girls who are confident and self-sufficient contributing members of society”.
Honore who is a survivor of child abuse is using her past experience to channel her fears into passion and activism as a social entrepreneur and rights advocate and started I Have A Right Foundation(IHARF) as a result. The clubhouse and lounge is a project of IHARF.
Honore said in her opening remarks, “I dream of a World where genuine compassion for others is embedded in the hearts and minds of everyone. I dream of a World where every child, and every girl has the equal opportunity and ability to reach their full potential regardless of their race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background or disability”.
The mission of IHARF is to equip beneficiaries with the knowledge, skills, and resources to become active leaders in social change. Through advocacy and empowerment activities. This foundation focuses on contributing to the holistic development of children, girls and youth. The clubhouse and lounge will be a safe space where girls living within the North East of Dominica can access information on reproductive health, mental health, safety and rights, academic support, recreational activities, leadership and skill building programs, and also mentorship and support services.
This Club House is equipped with a Mini Library, Study Corners and Printing Services.
Core Program Areas include:
Annual GirlHood Leadership and Mentorship Program
Monthly Motivational Tea Party
GirlHood Book Club
You can get involved by donating, being a volunteer or mentor.

Are we people not taking COVID-19 seriously. Whilst I admire the young woman. Why did she not ask the girls to wear their mask and where is the social distancing?
