The National Cooperative
At its presentation ceremony yesterday, the students and parents were officially presented with their scholarship letter. Fifteen of the scholarships were need-based while one was based on merit.
The students expressed their thanks to the NCCU, saying that the scholarships ease the strain on their parents to send them to secondary school. They promised to do well to make themselves, their families and the NCCU proud.
One mother said that she received the call to tell her of her child’s success in getting the scholarship on her birthday and that this was the best birthday gift she could have received.
President of the NCCU, Mrs. Josephine Dublin reported that the NCCU spends over $72,000 in its scholarship program sponsoring about sixty-seven students. The scholarship provides textbooks, uniform, transportation allowance and the payment of fees for both the CCSLC Exam taken in third form and the CSEC Exam sat at fifth form. One more scholarship was given this year than last year.
