Police Chief(Ag) Lincoln Corbette has said that training of new police recruits will begin soon. This is in order to address a shortage of police officers in the service.
“Our numbers are very limited. We have quite a bit of vacancies, a hundred and twenty nine and counting…”
He continued that a number of officers are on vacation or study leave and that prevents the force from being able to do all what it intends to do. However, training of new recruits will begin in the next 2-3 weeks.
Corbette hopes that two cohorts of 50 recruits each will allow for more officers on patrol.
He said, “We are trying as best as we can to patrol but it’s a daunting task with the men that we have right now. But we are up to the task and as soon as we can get the numbers, we will see more officers…”
