CCCUL Donates To Dominica Cancer Society

The Central Cooperative Credit Union has come on board with the Dominica Cancer Society in its efforts to combat the deadly disease on island.

On Monday, the CCCUL made a donation of $5000 to the society.

General manager of Central, Cleo Watt said that it is “an honor to make this donation to the Dominica Cancer Society as part of our Credit Union week of activities and in support of the tremendous work being done by the Dominica cancer society…It is fitting therefore that we recognize the tremendous work done by the Dominica Cancer Society in its ongoing efforts to educate, empower and provide support to individuals, cancer patients and cancer survivors, their families and their communities in the fight against these disease…We at the Central Cooperative Credit Union join in solidarity with the Dominica Cancer society in the fight against breast cancer and other forms of cancer”.

Watt said that at Central the mission is to maximize members benefit by providing cost effective financial services for their economic and social well being. Healthcare is key to social being hence the decision to make this donation to the cancer society.

Meanwhile, president of the Dominica Cancer Society Yvonne Alexander expressed gratitude for Central’s kind gesture as the society “…depends on the generosity of the public in order to fulfill our mandate of providing cancer prevention, care and support for the individuals some of them are out members, who are affected by cancer and providing services generally in relation to cancer prevention and care. Our vision is to be a beacon of hope, a beacon of help and a beacon of support”.

Alexander stressed that early intervention saves lives and said that “the society is highly concerned about the high incidence of cancer related illnesses in Dominica and more so the mortality rate among our citizens”.
