Secretary Rubio Meets with Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley

Secretary of State Marco Rubio met today with Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados to reaffirm the longstanding ties between the United States and Barbados. During their discussions, Secretary Rubio emphasized the Trump Administration’s commitment to supporting Barbados and CARICOM Member States in addressing transnational threats. This includes the recent designation of the Venezuelan criminal organization, Tren de Aragua, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) in accordance with U.S. domestic authorities.

The two leaders also explored regional security efforts, particularly the U.S.-Barbados partnership under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative. Their talks covered strategies for combating illicit narcotics and firearms trafficking, prosecuting transnational organized crime, and enhancing regional security cooperation. Additionally, they discussed energy collaboration, with Prime Minister Mottley highlighting the economic potential of energy initiatives in the region.

Regarding Haiti, Secretary Rubio commended Prime Minister Mottley’s leadership in efforts to stabilize the country and expressed his commitment to working closely with her on this critical issue.
