Sagicor congratulates winners of Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s 35th Caribbean Media Awards

Highlights winners of its Health Education and Financial Literacy Journalism Awards

Sagicor was pleased to continue its sponsorship of the Health Education and Financial Literacy journalism awards in the recently concluded CBU 35th Caribbean Media Awards. Sagicor’s sponsorship, now in its fourth year, helps celebrate the work of Caribbean journalists who promote an understanding of the national or regional health sectors while also recognising news or current affairs content that focuses on and promotes an understanding of the financial components and skills pertaining to the effective management of money and debt.

The financial literacy journalism award in the television category was won by the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation in Barbados for episode four of their “Newspulse,” piece entitled “Financial Health with Exchange Museum,” by Stacey Russell. The print category of this award was won by the RJRGLEANER Communications Group (RJR) in Jamaica for “Breaking the Cycle of Old Age Poverty,” by Sashana Small. The Jamaican media house also received a special mention in this category along with the Trinidad Express newspaper.

Khamarie Rodriguez of the Trinidad Express also won in this category, for print, with the piece “Who Cares for the Disabled? Developmental Disability and Access to Public Health Care.

Ingrid Card, Vice President, Communications and Brand Experience, Sagicor Financial Company Ltd, congratulated this year’s recipients, while reiterating the important work of the region’s media practitioners.

“Congratulations to all winners in our-sponsored categories as well as those across the other categories. We’re always pleased to be able to assist in celebrating the outstanding work of our media practitioners. To all, we say, well done and thank you for advancing the important topics within our society that help us to both think and act.”

CBU President, Dr. Claire Grant noted the importance of the partnership with Sagicor Financial.  “In committing over the years to support and celebrate the work on Caribbean media professionals, Sagicor is making an invaluable contribution to the development of the region. And the encouragement it gives to journalists focused on these difficult but necessary topics should be recognized as part of the regional development support it truly is.”

The CBU Caribbean Media Awards is the region’s premier media recognition platform. This year’s event saw a record number of entries across print, television, radio and digital media. The Gala event for the presentation of trophies and certificates in the upcoming 36th edition of the Awards will take place in Barbados in August 2025, during the 56th CBU Annual General Assembly.
