Roseau, Dominica: March 6, 2024 – The Alwin Bully Foundation (ABF) is remembering the legendary cultural leader on the one-year anniversary of his death with a church service and a special virtual presentation on Sunday 10th March that will focus on the life and impact of this outstanding Dominican artist and visionary.

The Remembering Alwin activities on March 10th are in an effort to remember and to celebrate the work of this great Dominican. According to the Alwin Bully Foundation, the celebration of the one year anniversary is to help perpetuate Alwin’s memory and is a call to Dominicans and Caribbean people to commemorate the life of  this visionary, thinker and cultural icon whose work transcended boundaries and whose impact is being felt both at home and abroad.

“we are extremely proud to present to our community of artists, cultural enthusiasts, and our Dominican and Caribbean family, a unique opportunity and a grand occasion to reflect on Alwin’s many contributions to national and regional development and for his enduring legacy which we believe will help us in the building of a more just, progressive and democratic society.”

The Foundation continues by stating:

“Alwin’s work was always positive and took on a nationalistic and regional flavor in the hope that we can as a people utilize our creativity and ingenuous spirit to help in shaping and building a country and region that provide opportunities for all its people regardless of their background or status. His enduring legacy should also be an inspiration to this and future generations to see art and culture as a major tool to unite our people, tell stories of who we are and where we are coming from, and to help usher in greater prosperity to our country as we look for new ways to create opportunities especially for our young people.”

As part of the celebrations, the Mass at the St. Gerard’s Chapel on March 10th will be dedicated to the memory of this giant of Dominican and Caribbean culture. Then later in the evening, those close to Alwin will celebrate him in a two-hour virtual presentation to be carried via zoom.  The event which is scheduled to begin from 4:00 p.m. will feature a series of short messages, reflections, various cultural presentations and the screening of a short documentary on the Nite Box. The evening’s programme will also provide an opportunity for supporters and the general public to be updated on the on-going work of the Alwin Bully Foundation.  Persons wishing to contribute to the work of the Foundation will also be provided with information on ways to make their contributions to the work of this organisation that was established to honour his memory and to keep his legacy alive.

The Foundation hopes that the celebration and remembrance on the one-year anniversary of the passing of Alwin Bully will continue to fuel a greater desire and need to support and invest in art and culture in Dominica and to steer us in a more positive direction to build a more robust and viable cultural industry sector in Dominica that will contribute in a meaningful way to the economic and social development of the country.
