Prominent Musician Calls For Writers Camp or Forum To Elevate Bouyon Music

Cornell ‘Fingers’ Phillip, renowned musician, Bouyon pioneer and one of the original members of the WCK Band reiterated calls for strategies to elevate the Bouyon Music that is being produced.

He said that he has suggested a writers camp or producers camp before which has yet to materialize.

He continued, “The writers camps, the forums that is not things that we do and we need to do that. I can Rembrandt we used to have forums with Cadence-Lypso, with calypso…when last have you heard of something like that. That is something that we are losing…these are things that need to he implemented in the backing to really elevate the product. We keep talking about lyrics, we keep complaining… but what do we do about it”.

Phillip says that a collective strategy is needed to push Bouyon music as individual artists are unable to do it on his or her own. Phillip also said that while many talk about lack of respect for the artform, he believes that it may be because those involved cannot be seen as a body.

Phillip who was a 2018 recipient of the Golden Drum Award made these comments during a panel discussion on Bouyon Day which was celebrated on Tuesday 18, February.
